There was confusion whether I would be here today. Most students did not bring their instrument.

Flutes (Meigan, Ava, and Jade) (Ava had instrument)

What we did
  • Discussed identifying the note names of the Treble Clef staff.
  • Demonstrated how to check their progress from my web page.
  • Review fingerings for Bb, C and D

What to do
  • Play lines 2 and 4 in the book and establish the following:
    • Correct pitches/fingerings
    • Establish consistent steady tempo
    • Start each note with a "Ha-Too" articulation
    • Begin to establish proper tone quality
    • Establish consistent proper posture

Looking Ahead
  • Learning the fingering for D and playing the note with acceptable tone quality (Line 1 on page 6)
  • Playing combinations of whole note/rest patterns using Bb, C, and D (lines 3, 5-7)

Mason - Clarinets/Alto Saxophone (Soren and Gwyenth (had instrument); all else did not come.

What we did
All students
  • Played line 7 to achieve proficiency or mastery level
  • Looked ahead at line 8-10
  • Worked establish a legato tounguing style with half note rhythms

What to do
  • Count, define and play half note/rest rhythms on line 11 with good legato articulation.
    • No break in the air stream to tongue
      • Use a "too" or a "doo" articulation
    • Establish consistent steady tempo
    • Start each note with a "Ha-Too" articulation
    • Begin to establish proper tone quality
    • Establish consistent proper posture
